Developing a budget is an easy thing to do.  Sticking to it, well, that’s another matter. It might seem that developing a budget should be an elementary task. But many people are simply not inclined to use spreadsheets, balance checkbooks or lay out a formal budget.It is within everybody’s self-interest to make the effort to outline expenses against income even if it requires getting someone else to help undertake the task. Avoiding Debt by Saving

There is a relationship between debt and savings.  The more you save, the less in debt you will be.  At the same time, the more you save, the less you need to borrow.

Instead of borrowing money by using your credit card, you could save that same amount every month until you had enough to buy the item you used the credit card to purchase. Only you can decide whether having the item today is worth paying the extra amount of money it cost in interest to own it. Continue reading →

Having Fun Without Credit

imageLife without a credit card is possible, it just takes discipline and patience.

I am a firm believer that you don’t need a credit card to enjoy the finer things in life. Five years ago, my wife and I decided to tear up all of our cards to combat the growing debt problems we were facing. Sure, it’s been tough to live with out credit, but we’re managing just fine.
